Large Gold Medal for Hardy Plant Society North West Group's display at Southport Flower Show 2014
A Large Gold Medal was won by the Hardy Plant Society for their entry into the prestigious Southport Flower Show. With a ‘Brazil’ theme for this year’s Show, the HPS team developed a design inspired by the work of the famous Brazilian landscape designer – Roberto Burle Marx.
Groups of brilliant yellow and blue plants were contrasted with a calming palette of green planting. Flowing through the exhibit was a mosaic path (designed and built by Glenda Ostick) set underneath a home-grown Gunnera plant with magnificent umbrella-like leaves.
Following summer visits to a delightful Becconsall garden and a coach tour to Cholmondeley Castle, the Autumn programme of Lectures starts again on the 22 September when Bob Sanderson from Cath’s Garden Plants will show some unusual plants. Visitors are very welcome to our meetings which start at 7.30 pm in the Samlesbury Memorial Hall, Cuerdale Lane. Entry £3 including refreshments. Members’ plants also for sale.
