HPS 60th Anniversary Celebration at Mill Barn, 15.7.2017
(with special thanks to our host Chris Mortimer and all helpers; the beautiful cake was made by Glenda Ostick.)
The Hardy Plant Society was founded in March 1957 when Alan Bloom, Arthur Hellyer, Will Ingwersen and John Sambrook met to discuss the formation of a society to promote knowledge and appreciation of hardy herbaceous perennials. Sixty years later the Society has 42 regional groups, one of which is the North West Group which meets at Samlesbury War Memorial Hall near Preston, Lancashire. There are also 8 Special interest groups (Snowdrops, Half-hardy plants, Hardy Geraniums, Peonies, Pulmomaria, Ranunculaceae, Shade and woodland, and Variegated plants) as well as a Correspondents group.
