Anna Pavord's celebrity lecture, 20 February 2012
'Bulbs for all seasons'

This year, the Hardy Plant Society NW Group again held their annual Celebrity Lecture at Birkacre Garden Centre, Chorley, to a well-attended and receptive audience. A warm welcome was given to Anna Pavord - Garden Writer and Gardening Correspondent of The Independent - who has written many gardening books, including her world-famous one on The Tulip and her latest book The Curious Gardener. Anna brought her considerable knowledge, both of plants and the history of their discoveries, to the subject of ‘Bulbs for all Seasons’, and with great humour and enthusiasm, ranged over the ‘astonishing cavalcade of seasonal colour’ that bulbs bring to our gardens. Brilliant examples of the naming of bulbs, the astonishing feats accomplished by plant hunters in bringing species back to England, and her own trials and successes, gave the audience an enthralling lecture.

Thanks were given by Dorothy Richards to past Chairman, Neville Jackson, and Vice-Chair, Moe Sawyer, who respectively contributed significantly to the Society’s Silver-Gilt Medal at Chelsea, and Gold-Medal successes at Southport Flower Shows.
